Day 129 of 2008

Welcome

You've stumbled across zkdigital - a small, short and sometimes bumpy cyberhighway frontage road. The professional portfolio of Geoff Humphrey. That's me on the right with the camera, plaid pants and all. Hey, it was 1976 and my mommy dressed me...

I'm a full time corporate educator, manager, and instructional designer living and working in the 'burbs of Denver, Colorado. At the core of my professional experience is instructional design, applications of learning theory, curriculum development, and training.

Throughout my career, I have been analyzing the need for learning, and designing and developing educational events that are grounded in sound theory and proven practices. I either implement it on my own or delegate it to my staff. Most importantly, though, I make an effort to evaluate - to reflect. That, in my experience, is the key to growth and ultimate test of the quality of the learning experience.

Since earning my undergraduate degree, my career path has led me through two venues, each affording their own unique experiences, rewards and flavor.

From 1995 through 2001 I was a professional educator in a public high school, serving at the same school each of those years. The controlled chaos of a high school classroom, along with great peer-mentors, provided me with the skills of instructional differentiation: using a variety of teaching methods with multiple intelligences in mind. During that time my “learn by doing” philosophy developed and the foundations of sound instructional design were built.

Since earning my Master’s Degree the summer of 2001, I begain working in a corporate environment at Metrolist, Inc., taking on roles of instructional designer, trainer, learning consultant, eLearning instructional designer, eLearning developer and trainer mentor. My primary focus was adult learners, individuals with diverse needs and motivations for learning. Immediacy, utility, timeliness, and application of learned concepts are of primary concern to them. To achieve immediate application of learned skills, I have incorporated a benefit-based learning philosophy and curriculum at Metrolist where the concepts introduced to learners are designed to be immediately useful, especially when presented in an experiential environment.

Since then, I've moved on to be an Instructional Design manager for Jones International University, where I work with content experts to develop courses mainly in the Master's of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Business Communication, and Doctor of Business Administration degree programs.

While instructional approaches with adults are different that those of high school students, the underlying philosophy of “here’s something new; now, let’s do something with it” is still present - no matter where learning takes place. I am the person who can help make this kind of learning happen.

As you peruse this site, you may notice that, in addition to my full-time occupation, I also have a myraid of part-time ones, all of which I do at varying degrees of competency.

Professionally, my interests include graphic design, instructional design, learning interactions, distance learning consultation and production as well as online training consultation and construction. I develop projects with programs such as Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Fireworks, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Captivate, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Image Ready, and Adobe Premiere.

Personally, I enjoy family activities, the outdoors, photography, playing soccer and softball, brewing my own beer, and cooking. Additionally, I am resigned to working on endless home improvement projects and have become a regular at Home Depot.

Anyway, enough about me. Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy your stay.
