Demonstration of Responsibility:

#2: Designs instruction or human performance strategy to meet the needs of learners. I designed a course to incorporate student desire to easily build webpages and have them published.

#3: Uses a variety of media to deliver instruction to students and to engage students in learning. The web-interface is a great way to reach a mass audience, to give students a sense of accomplishment that they are "published." The use of the internet, CDROM, and print sources are required for the research.

Current State

I have been teaching a sociology/history course at my high school, Colorado's Finest Alternative, for six years now. In that time, I've always looked for an alternative methodology for presenting the material covered that, obviously, pertains to the course. The Internet is a wonderful source for historical material, but there are very few sites that are dedicated to depicting the history of rock a...

A Study on Educator Attitudes Toward Technology Integration in a Public High School Setting

Author: Geoff Humphrey

“Technostress is a modern disease of adaptation caused by an inability to cope with the new computer technologies in a healthy manner. It manifests itself in two distinct and related ways: in the struggle to accept computer technology, and in the more specialized form of over identification with computer technology.”
- Craig Brod, Author of Technostress: The Human Cost of the Computer Revolution

Abstract

Nearing the End of Schindler's List

Background

To gain a greater understanding of the cognitive critique situation, I must first explain the workings of the particular school in which I have spent all of my professional years. The school is unique, to understate it. The concept of alternative schools is not unheard of; in fact, they are springing up everywhere. Unfortunately, the alternative setting in most districts is used as a dumping ground for all the “hard cases” – students who have academic, emotional, physical or social problems, or any combinat...

Life Experiences: Elementary through High School

Growing up in a small town, I believe my views of the world could be termed a bit more innocent than others, say, in New York or inner city Los Angeles. Yes, my friends, I was born in Greeley, Colorado, that place that has a certain odor to it, twenty miles east of Fort Collins and sixty miles northeast of Denver. In fact, I didn’t escape the clutches of this berg until I was 23 and out of college – I guess it has a certain appeal. Maybe.

The reason my family moved to Greeley from, get this, England was because m...

Audience/Learner Analysis

The learners for this project are 7th grade science and technology teachers. Media specialists are also encouraged to come for the lesson. These teachers are self-motivated to learn this material. We know this from informal surveys taken at inservice dates and other meeting times for the teachers in the building. All are enthusiastic to use inservice time to do something that they are ...

Instructional Design Philosophy

The instructional design philosophy that best describes what we are hoping to achieve at the middle and high school level is that of Cognitive Flexibility. According to R. Spiro, P. Feltovitch & R. Coulson in the web posted article, “The theory is largely concerned with transfer of knowledge and skills beyond their initial learning situation.” With this in mind, the goal ...

1st Session . . .

Whew! My first ever nine-hour class. I am encouraged by positive environment and the motivation of everybody involved. We discussed (at too much length at times) the format for the class and the responsibilities of the students. I am still confused a bit on what exactly I am supposed to do and it kind of irks me. I wish we all had a definite idea of exact expectations. All I know is that we need to bring some kind of video showing camera work shot by us (I think). Also, we need to read a series of articles debating media’s effec...

Video Product Front End Analysis

I. Force Field Analysis

  • Benefits
    • New teachers are exposed to ideas “that work”
    • Increase the tools in the “tool box”-- i.e. methodologies
    • Seeing theory practiced, practices that work
    • Effort counts in anything with realization that all methods can not reach all learners
  • Detriments
    • Scope of project too narrow
    • Comprehensive coverage not possible
    • Time/Resources
    • Meeting times, geographic locations of producers
